Tuesday, August 18 ~ Fish Day Two Press Release

  Offshore winds freshened a bit as the day wore on creating a light chop for the 123 boats that fished on Day Two of the 2009 Mid-Atlantic $500,000 and although the billfish bite continued, it was tough for participants to find a white marlin heavier than the current third place fish of 71 pounds. Several blue marlin were also caught though none were weighed. At the close of this evening’s weigh-in session, no changes had occurred in any of the weight categories.
   Gina Addeo’s Gina Lisa from Staten Island, New York continues to lead the white marlin category with a 75 pounder followed by Steve Castellini of Ocean City, New Jersey on his Uncle T in second place with a 74 pounder. We still have a tie for third place between Greg Murphy’s Sun Runner from Long Beach, New Jersey and John Raimondo’s Sea Mistress out of Newton Square, Pennsylvania with white marlin of 71 pounds.
   Staten Island, New York’s Sonny Falcone still commands the blue marlin category on his Cookie II with a 453 pounder. Second and third place in the category are vacant.
   Charlie Duerr of Tinton Falls, New Jersey still sits atop the tuna category with his Sea Hag and a 69-pound yellowfin. We continue to have a tie for second place between Bob Belansen of Cape May, New Jersey aboard his Beast and Peter Cherasia of Rumson, New Jersey on Shark Byte with yellowfin tuna of 67 pounds.
   Dan Borislow of Palm Beach, Florida still leads the dolphin category on his Triple Crown with a 34 pounder while the wahoo category is lead by Albert Stork of Forked River, New Jersey with a 66-pounder on Southern Comfort.
   While numerous boats released a single white marlin, some of the boats with multiple billfish releases today include Sewell, New Jersey’s Jim Conner with four white marlin aboard Tranquility while Woodbury, New Jersey’s James Wright aboard his Cap’n Crunch and Jeff Citron of Brielle, New Jersey aboard Singularis each released a blue marlin and two white marlin. Ron McQuaid’s Sea Cure out of Tuckerton, New Jersey released three white marlin. Boats with two white marlin releases include Steve Hotz of Medford, New Jersey aboard Deal Breaker, Scott Steele of Catonsville, Maryland aboard Topless, Bob Mormile of Wallingford, Pennsylvania on Lizanne, Helen Slone of Millville, New Jersey on Guided Discovery and Dan Deer of St. Michaels, Maryland on True Grit and Walt Koller of West New York, New Jersey aboard Nasty Habit.
